Environmental quality brings together human convenience and comfort , sustainable use of natural resources and control of waste. The environmental approach is an innovate approach to building issues, including the project brief, design, construction and building management. All parties are involved as a team; all have a common aim, that of environmental protection, and many use comparable methods to achieve it. Practice varies between cities and according to different building types, ranging from empirical approaches to performance specification methods. In this article several projects are described in different cities of Iran, which are representative of the variety of techniques employed. Most of them used empirical methods. Some made use of a more theoretical approach based on defined, sometimes quantified targets.
